Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, widely known as AY Comedian, has expressed concerns over the enormous profits banks continue to announce while citizens struggle with financial difficulties.
On Monday, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to question how financial institutions generate trillions in earnings every quarter, despite the challenging economic climate.
“Where do banks get the trillions they declare as profits every quarter, even in a struggling economy? 🤔 The small charges and debits on our accounts need to be challenged. Many of these fees are unique to Nigeria. Why is that? #BankingFees #Nigeria #Transparency #Shalom,” he posted.
Prompt News reports that his statement has sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians sharing similar grievances about deductions they believe to be excessive.
Complaints about various banking fees, from maintenance charges to SMS alerts, have been growing, with some calling for stricter oversight from financial regulators.
