Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation says the country has the capacity to co-host the FIFA World Cup with Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire in the future.
He has urged the government to begin considering a long-term plan for such a joint bid, noting FIFA’s growing preference for multi-nation hosting.
The United States, Mexico and Canada will stage next year’s tournament, while Morocco, Spain and Portugal are set to co-host the 2030 edition.
Adams believes Ghana could pursue a similar path with its West African neighbours.
He stated that FIFA’s recent direction opens a window of opportunity, adding that Ghana, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire have strong foundations to build on, with the latter recently investing heavily to host the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations
“They [FIFA] are beginning to adapt a number of nations doing it so maybe who knows, the next one would be Ghana, Nigeria, and then Cote d’Ivoire coming together to also host the World Cup, and it will be good,” he said.
“I believe that we, together with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, who have already invested quite a lot because they hosted AFCON not too long ago.
“We can also ask for that right.”
