Sunderland beat Newcastle United 2-1 in their Premier League clash at the St James’ Park on Sunday.
It was Sunderland’s first Tyne-Wear derby win at St James’ Park in over a decade.
Anthony Gordon gave the hosts the lead after 10 minutes.
A poorly executed goal-kick routine saw Luke O’Nien gift possession to the Magpies on the edge of his own area, allowing Gordon to slot home from close range.
However, Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey ensured the comeback to see the Black Cats complete the league double over their rivals.
The result not only means that Sunderland leapfrog Newcastle in the Premier League table, but it sees them set a new record with 11 Premier League Tyne-Wear derbies unbeaten.
