The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, over his alleged role in the killing of a woman, Olaseni Veronica, in Iboropa, within the Akoko area of the state.
The command disclosed that the suspect’s arrest followed useful intelligence which prompted an immediate investigation into the incident.
It was gathered that detectives traced the deceased’s missing mobile phone, a development that eventually led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
Police sources said the suspect confessed while being interrogated, admitting that he had sexual contact with the victim before allegedly ending her life.
The command condemned the incident, describing it as barbaric, and reassured residents that the case would be diligently prosecuted.
Authorities added that the matter has been transferred to the state police headquarters in Akure for further handling.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authorities.
He also advised the public to avoid spreading unverified claims in cases of sudden deaths, emphasising that accurate information is vital to police investigations.
