Suspected armed men on Sunday attacked an ECWA Church in Omugo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting several worshippers during service.
As reported by PUNCH, the incident, which occurred in the morning, reportedly caused panic among residents and members of the church.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the worship centre and forcefully took away a number of congregants before help arrived.
A local source revealed that no fewer than seven persons were initially seized by the attackers.
Security operatives, however, mounted a swift response and succeeded in rescuing three of the victims from the abductors.
The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed the development, stating that efforts were ongoing to free those still in captivity.
She praised the combined efforts of security personnel, vigilantes, and forest guards for their prompt action, which helped to repel the attackers.
Olukoju also denounced the attack on the church, assuring residents that authorities were working to apprehend those responsible and strengthen security across the area.
