The Delta State Police Command has arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and four others in connection with the death of a deputy director in the ministry, Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda.
The command also declared two other persons wanted as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the investigation into the incident had been intensified.
Edafe said Ashibogwu and three other suspects had been taken into custody, bringing the total number of people being held in connection with the case to five.
According to the statement, the police have launched a manhunt for the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, and Clement Apia, the driver attached to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The command said the presence of the two persons was required to assist investigators in further establishing the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The police urged Ufuoma and Apia to make themselves available to investigators without further delay.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel E. Erale, appealed to the two suspects to report to the command, irrespective of their present location.
Erale also assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, impartially and professionally.
He stressed that anyone found culpable in the death of the deputy director would face justice.
The command further assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that due process would be followed in determining what led to Adeda’s death.

The police did not disclose further details about the circumstances of the death or the specific allegations against those arrested, as the investigation continues.
