The Enugu State Police Command has successfully thwarted a robbery attack, neutralizing one suspect and apprehending another in multiple operations across the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, officers recovered a cut-to-size double-barrelled gun with three live cartridges, two stolen Toyota Corolla cars, and other incriminating items during the operations.
Ndukwe revealed that on February 24, operatives from the 9th Mile Police Division repelled an armed robbery attempt along Owa Road, 9th Mile. One of the assailants was neutralized, while others managed to escape.
“A cut-to-size double-barrelled gun with three live cartridges, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, and other exhibits were recovered. A manhunt is ongoing for the fleeing suspects, who sustained gunshot wounds,” he stated.
In a separate operation, officers from the Igbo-Etiti Police Division, acting on intelligence, recovered a stolen blue Toyota Corolla. The suspect, whose identity was withheld, admitted to stealing the vehicle from a compound in Orba, Udenu Local Government Area, on February 14.
The suspect has since been arraigned in court and remanded at the Correctional Custodial Centre, pending further investigations.
Similarly, on February 1, around 2 a.m., operatives recovered another stolen Toyota Corolla at Igbo-Eze Street, Independence Layout, Enugu. The criminals abandoned the vehicle and fled upon spotting the police officers. The recovered car has since been returned to its owner.
Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime in the state, urging residents to continue supporting security efforts.
