Nollywood filmmaker Biodun Stephen has once again criticised what she calls a “new trend” of women going out in public without underwear.
In a TikTok video, Stephen voiced her concern, saying she has been speaking against the practice since 2015 and is alarmed that it seems to be becoming more common.
She illustrated her point with a personal experience at a salon last week. According to the filmmaker, a woman arrived for a pedicure in a short outfit, which left her private parts “in full display” when she sat down.
“I believe the first time I talked about ladies not putting on pants was in 2015. Let’s try to always wear pants, there are several types. Why don’t we like wearing pants?” Stephen said.
“Last week, I went to get my hair done at the salon. A lady came in to do her pedicure. As she sat, I looked at her side, I saw her vagina in full display.”
Stephen described the incident as both uncomfortable and inappropriate for a public setting. She strongly condemned the behaviour, calling it a “nuisance” rather than a fashion statement.
“Who is teaching us all these fashion? Is it a fashion trend not to wear pant?” she asked.

“You are coming for a pedicure, you would at least wear something long. Must you wear mini gown or skirt without pant? Why is pant your enemy? Who told you pant is your enemy? Who told you it isn’t good for you? Please stop doing it. This is not fashion, it is nuisance.”
Prompt News reports this is not the first time Stephen has addressed the importance of wearing underwear in public. In August 2025, following a viral incident involving a female passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, she highlighted the significance of underwear, especially in situations that could lead to physical confrontations.
