Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr recently paid a courtesy visit to Seychelles President Patrick Herminie ahead of her scheduled performance at the country’s 50th Independence Day celebrations.
The 24-year-old singer, born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, arrived in the island nation as part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee anniversary. She is expected to headline a performance on Monday at Stad Popiler.
During the meeting, President Herminie welcomed the Mavin Records artiste and appreciated her participation in the landmark celebration, describing the anniversary as a reflection of Seychelles’ journey, culture, unity and international partnerships.
A video from the visit captured Ayra Starr expressing appreciation for the reception she received upon arrival. She praised the hospitality of the people and spoke warmly about the country’s scenery while expressing excitement ahead of her show.
“My name is Ayra Starr, from Lagos, Nigeria. I am so happy to be in the Seychelles… Expect star girl energy, expect to have fun, expect to dance, to lose your voice by singing loudly, and just expect to have a good time,” she said.
“If you want to see me sing, you come on Monday. Shout out to the Seychelles people, you guys are amazing. I just got in today, and I feel all the love, and I can’t wait to see you on Monday.”
