Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo were on the scoresheet as the Super Falcons defeated Tanzania 2-1 in a friendly match on Friday night, rounding off their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Ajibade handed the 10-time African champions the lead in the 15th minute after being set up by Roma winger Rinsola Babajide.
The Super Falcons controlled large spells of the game and created several chances but were unable to extend their advantage before the break.
Tanzania fought back and restored parity in the 79th minute, threatening to deny Justine Madugu’s side victory.
However, Okoronkwo struck in the 89th minute to seal a deserved win for the reigning African champions.
Madugu named a strong starting XI featuring goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Toni Payne, captain Ajibade, and veteran striker Asisat Oshoala.
The victory provides a timely confidence boost ahead of the tournament, with the Super Falcons set to begin the defence of their WAFCON title against Malawi on Tuesday in Rabat.
The WAFCON 2026 also doubles as the African qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. All four semi-finalists will qualify automatically for the global tournament.
