The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe has arrived Tanzania as part of a critical fact-finding and oversight inspection tour of facilities for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027.
During his high-profile visit to Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian capital, Motsepe inspected the infrastructure at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and held extensive bilateral discussions with senior Tanzanian government officials, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) led by Wallace Karia.
Addressing rumors and negative media speculation suggesting the tournament might be moved, Motsepe firmly ruled out replacing Tanzania, Kenya, or Uganda.
He emphatically stated, “There is no Plan B, there is no Plan C… We will not take the 2027 AFCON away from East Africa.”
However, while expressing satisfaction with the visible upgrades and improvements since his last visit, the CAF President stressed that there are only nine months left before the competition kicks off, describing the timeline as a “big emergency” that requires accelerated work to meet strict deadlines.
Members of Motsepe’s strong delegation to Tanzania includes CAF Vice Presidents Kurt Okraku and Feizal Sidat; CECAFA President Paulos Andemariam Weldehaimanot, and Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
Following his engagements and a press conference in Tanzania, Motsepe and his team will travel to AFCON 2027 co-host Nairobi, Kenya today (Friday, September 18, 2026), to conduct similar stadium inspections and state meetings.
