Nigerian music star Joeboy has weighed in on the reactions that followed Tyla winning the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards.
The award sparked widespread discussions online after Tyla triumphed with her song Push 2 Start, beating a strong lineup of Nigerian nominees including Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy.
In a recent appearance on Jay On-Air, Joeboy acknowledged that while many people had strong opinions about the outcome, he believes the South African singer earned the honour.
“Personally, I was rooting for Davido to win the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, but you can’t take it away from Tyla. She is an amazing artist whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work,” he said.
He added that public criticism of the result does not change the effort Tyla invested in her craft.

“People can be angry all they want but she deserved the Grammy win. I can’t fault her triumph,” he stated.
Prompt News reports Joeboy also spoke positively about Tyla’s talent, revealing that she is among the artists he would like to work with in the future, while praising her dedication and artistry.
