There are indications that the bulk of the foreign-based invited players will not be in camp when the Super Falcons resume camping today in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games African qualifiers double-header against
Comoros slated for Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on Friday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Prompt News reports.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) earlier in the week unveiled a 28-woman list of players directing them to resume camp on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode ahead of their Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifying two-legged second-round fixtures against Comoros.
But 20 out of 28 invited players based abroad will not be in camp today just as the absence of the key players in camp is not unconnected with club duties which most of the overseas-based professional players are involved in from today to Sunday, October 4, 2026.
This is even as the October FIFA Women’s International Window will open on Monday, October 5 and ends on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 with the clubs not under obligations to release their overseas players for national team duties till next Monday.
Among the key invitees who will play weekend matches before joining Super Falcons’ camp in Ijebu-Ode are No.1 goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie of Brighton & Hove Albion women’s football club whose team is 11th in England’s Women’s Super League (WSL) plays against Charlton women club sitting 14th on the log on Sunday October 4.
Nnadozie who has featured four times for Brighton & Hove Albion women’s this season without any victory will not be released by the struggling English club to join the Nigeria camp today. Her club has lost two matches drawn two and won none.
Also, reserved goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor of Portsmouth Ladies will host Lewes football club on Sunday October 4 for English second division FA Women’s National League even as Erhabor’s club plays again on Sunday October 11 versus
Hashtag United.
Others who have weekend club commitments are forward Uchenna Kanu of Cruz Azul Femenil Mexico whose club will host Necaxa on Sunday October 4; Blessing Nkor of Dynamo Brest of Balerus plays with Arsenal Dzyarzhynsk on October 9; Shukurat Oladipo of AS Rome and her team will take on SS Lazio women’s today in Italy while
Toni Payne of Inter Milan plays on Sunday October 4 before coming to Nigeria.
In the same vein, United States-based players Gift Nyako Monday of Washington Spirit will travel to Texas to tackle Houston Dash on Monday October 5 while Mitchell Alozie’s Chicago Stars will meet Denver Summit on Sunday October 4 just as Saudi Arabia-based Ashley Plumptre of Al Ittihad Women’s FC will play on October 3, 2026 in the Saudi Women’s Premier League match.
The duo of captain
Rasheedat Busayo Ajibade and midfielder Jennifer Onyinyechi Echegini of Paris Saint-Germain FC place 2nd in Division 1in France will play on Sunday, October 4 against Fleury women’s before joining Super Falcons camp the next day.
Meanwhile, a few of the foreign-based players may join the camp from tomorrow because they don’t have an immediate club duties. They include the trio of defender Oluwatoyin Demehin, forwards
Janet Akekoromowei and Flourish Sabastine of SL Benfica women’s in Portugal whose club available for their club’s next match is on October 18, 2026 against C.S. Marítimo.
Both Suliat Abideen of Fenerbahçe S.K. women’s and Glory Ogbonna’s Beşiktaş will not have matches till October 17 and 18,
2026 in Turkish Women’s Football Super League while
Asisat Oshoala of Al Hilal women’s football team only has a match on October 17, 2026 versus Ittihad Al-Nusour (United Eagles) in the SAFF Women’s Cup.
The above six foreign-based Invitees are expected to join the eight home-based players as early as Monday, October 5 when the FIFA Women’s International Window will start.
They are goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma; defender Farida Abdulwahab, Glory Edet and Tumininu Adeshina; midfielders Joy Igbokwe and Fatimoh Solaty and forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi.
It will therefore be foolhardy for the coaching crew to expect a full house in Super Falcons’ Ijebu-Ode camp until three days to the first match of the crucial 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games African qualifiers double-header on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The October camp will mark the first time the Super Falcons will be coming together after the shambolic performance of the team in the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco even as the camp is in preparation for a campaign aimed at securing a return to the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament after Nigeria featured at the last 2024 Paris Olympics Games.
Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the African qualifying competition, while Comoros progressed after an emphatic 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan in the opening round.
The NFF had late last month appointed its Technical Director and former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen as interim head coach for the Olympic qualifying assignment.
Eguavoen will be assisted by Nasarawa Amazons coach Christopher Danjuma, while former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa has been appointed goalkeeper trainer while ex-Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf will also serve on the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
