A new wave of online controversy has emerged after Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, reacted to a string of verbal attacks from Grammy Award-winning singer Wizkid, following disagreements over comparisons between the two artistes.
The dispute was triggered when Seun criticised fans of Wizkid for equating the contemporary star’s success with the cultural and political legacy of Fela. According to Seun, such comparisons overlook the depth of his father’s lifelong activism and influence beyond music.
The situation intensified on Tuesday evening when Wizkid took to his Instagram Stories to vent his anger at Seun. In one of the posts, the singer openly ranked himself above the late Afrobeat pioneer, stating:
“@bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin u one do fool? Hungry bastard.”
Wizkid later moved the exchange to X, where he further dismissed Seun while contrasting his efforts with Fela’s historic fight against oppression. He wrote:
“Fela fight for freedom this fool dey fight for fc! Oloshi omo ale!”

Seun Kuti chose a restrained response, opting for sarcasm rather than confrontation. Sharing a screenshot of Wizkid’s remarks on Instagram, he captioned it:
“Just be yourself short man. You are also great.”
