The Taraba State University (TSU) community has been thrown into mourning following the death of a first-year Mass Communication student, Comfort Jimtop, whose body was discovered inside her boyfriend’s apartment in Jalingo under unclear circumstances.
Jimtop, a native of Takum Local Government Area, was found lifeless on Friday afternoon, a discovery that sparked panic among students and residents.
Police sources said empty bottles of alcoholic drinks were found beside the bed where the student’s body lay. In a twist that deepened suspicion, all 15 tenants of the compound, including her boyfriend, reportedly fled the premises after the incident.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Taraba, ASP Leshen James, identified the boyfriend as Emmanuel Shata, also a student of the institution.
“When our men arrived at the residence, nobody was found. The boyfriend and other tenants had abandoned the house,” James said.
He added that investigations are underway to determine the cause of death and that efforts are ongoing to track down Shata and the fleeing tenants.
