The three-day FIFA capacity-building workshop for women football administrators in Nigeria climaxed on Sunday in Abuja with the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Mohammed Sanusi MON, commending participants and facilitators for their commitment to the growth of the women’s game.

Speaking at the closing session, Dr Sanusi said the workshop was a deliberate step by the NFF, in partnership with FIFA, to equip women with the right tools to drive football administration at all levels. He noted that empowering women in football governance is central to the Federation’s development agenda.

He congratulated all participants and praised the resource persons for their contributions. “I want to sincerely congratulate every participant here today for your dedication and willingness to learn. I also appreciate our resource persons from FIFA for the knowledge and expertise you have shared with us. This program is not just about certificates; it is about what you will do with what you have learnt to grow women’s football in Nigeria. The NFF will continue to support initiatives that build capacity and create opportunities for women in football.”

The NFF scribe assured that the Federation will monitor the implementation of lessons learned and provide further platforms for women to take up leadership roles within the football ecosystem. He expressed optimism that the workshop will produce a new generation of administrators who will help reposition women’s football in Nigeria for greater success on and off the pitch.

The workshop covered key areas including football governance, competition management, marketing, safeguarding, and leadership. Participants  included representatives of the Nigeria Women Football League, NFF Staff, and other football stakeholders, who engaged in practical sessions led by FIFA women’s football technical experts Thubaelihle Sibanda and Tsholofelo Setlhoko, Ms Aisha Falode (Member, NFF Executive Committee and Member, FIFA Media Committee); Professor Mariam Suleiman of the Ahmadu Bello University, Dr Anthonia Uwa (a retired chief lecturer of the Nwafor Orizu College of Education and Mr. Mohammed Ammenu (FIFA-certified safeguarding officer and FIFA technical instructor in refereeing.

NFF’s Director of Competitions and FIFA/CAF Match Commissioner, Ms Ruth David coordinated the workshop.

Present during the ceremony were NFF’s Director of Media and Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire; Alhaji Salisu Abubakar (Deputy Head of Member Association) and; Alhaji Gandi Bala (a club owner).
