Nigerian record producer Samklef has claimed that singer Davido is partly responsible for the increasing rivalry and negative culture in the Nigerian music scene.
His remarks came after producer-turned-singer Pheelz took to Twitter to highlight the damaging effects of constant artist comparisons.
“Music was meant to be enjoyed, not to be compared. This comparison game is hurting the sound and culture more than we can ever know,” Pheelz wrote.
In response, Samklef reflected on a time when the industry was more collaborative, citing the periods when Wizkid and Olamide were emerging stars. According to him, the environment shifted with Davido’s entry.
“Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love.
“Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music.
“Then one Scorpio boy who moves like Diddy… Davido entered, and since then the industry turned toxic.
“Cultist mindset, threats, fake streams, dirty moves everywhere,” Samklef wrote.

He suggested that competition and unhealthy rivalry were not part of the industry’s original spirit.
