The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected armed robbers who attacked a female motorist along the Ondo–Ile-Oluji Road, promising to apprehend those behind the failed operation.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Otaasan area, where three armed men allegedly opened fire on a vehicle driven by a 50-year-old woman, Mrs Adebusoye Atinuke, in an apparent attempt to rob her.
The victim, however, escaped unhurt after reportedly speeding away from the scene, forcing the attackers to abandon the operation and flee into a nearby bush.
Police operatives who responded to a distress call immediately combed the surrounding area in search of the suspects, while investigations into the incident have commenced.
Confirming the attack in a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said efforts had been intensified to identify and arrest those responsible.
He said, “Police operatives promptly responded to the scene and launched an intensive search of the surrounding area.
Investigation is ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to identify, track and arrest the fleeing suspects.”
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
