The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Balamau Lardi, for allegedly stabbing his 37-year-old wife, Biyagwal Balamau, in the ribs.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, September 23, at Kurnyi Tudu Village in the Guyuk Local Government Area of the state.
The command disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
According to the PPRO, the police received information about the incident and immediately deployed operatives from the Guyuk Divisional Police Headquarters to the scene.
Nguroje said the officers rescued the woman and arrested her husband in connection with the alleged attack.
He added that the victim sustained serious injuries to the left side of her ribs and was subsequently taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The police spokesperson said the woman underwent surgery and was responding to treatment at the time of the statement.
The suspect, according to the command, remains in police custody as detectives continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, condemned the alleged act of gender-based violence and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.
The CP ordered a thorough investigation with a view to prosecuting the suspect in accordance with the law.
