Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi, widely known for his role in the classic Yoruba film Owo Blow, has made a return to the screen after a period away from acting during which he reportedly worked as a commercial driver in Lagos.
News of his comeback was shared by fellow actor Adeniyi Johnson, who posted a photo of Afolabi on a movie set via Instagram on Sunday, indicating that the veteran is back in active production.
According to Johnson, Afolabi is currently involved in a new project titled ILEKE, produced by his wife, Seyi Edun, also known as Shai, and directed by Adebayo Tijani.
“Ladies and gentlemen @sundayafolabi22 is back!!! Available for shoots in and out of Lagos even Naija!! Versatile and professional to the core!!!” Johnson wrote.
Afolabi’s return comes shortly after a viral video surfaced online showing him around a Lagos commercial bus, where he appeared to be assisting passengers and calling out destinations — a development that sparked concern among fans.
The clip drew widespread reactions, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy over the actor’s condition, as he appeared older and visibly leaner.
In a previous conversation with Kunle Afod, Afolabi reportedly spoke about personal struggles, including the loss of his wife and financial challenges, which affected his career.
He explained that taking up commercial driving was a necessary step to support himself while waiting for acting opportunities.
Afolabi, who gained prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s, has featured in several productions, including Luwo Gbagida (2025), The Lost Heir (2018), and The Herbert Macaulay Affair (2019).

However, like many actors of his era, his presence gradually reduced as the industry evolved with new faces and changing production styles. His last known appearance before his recent return was in the Africa Magic series Itura in 2023.
Prompt News reports his reappearance on set has since been welcomed with excitement by fans and colleagues, many of whom had earlier called for support following the viral video.
