Osun United Football Club have asked nine players to look elsewhere to ply their trade following a major shake off in the team ahead of the second round campaign of the Bet9ja Nigeria National League.
The technical crew of the Omoluabi Giants led by ex-international Duke Udi, retained twenty-two (22) players and the players have been advised to justify their stay in the club or be shown the exit door at the end of the season.
The affected players are Tosin Olabode, Abubakar Mohammed, Mustapha Ramoni, Ali Mohammed, Lekan Oseolohun, Edebiri Amaefe, Kunle Ashiru, Olabisi Olagunju, and Lekan Agunloye.
According to a statement from the club spokesperson Tunde Shamsudeen, said the technical crew have informed the management of their decision to drop the players from the team for low productivity and gross indiscipline.
Shamsudeen, thanked the dropped players for helping the team before now and wished them success in their future endeavour stressing that the drop became necessary following the ongoing restructuring in the club to cut expenses.
“The technical crew have given management the list of players they want to work with and the management have given them the free hand to operate and take a decision to ensure they are successful at the end of the current season,” the former Media Officer of defunct Anambra United said.
“We took the decision in the best interest of the club and in view of the task ahead as we want to cut our expenses. The most important thing is that we have a compact team on ground to prosecute any of the assignments (league and Federation Cup),” he concluded.
Osun United will lock horn against AS Racine Football Club at the Soccer Temple, Agege when the second round of the league resumes.
