Fatima Bosch of Mexico was crowned Miss Universe on Friday in Thailand, claiming the prestigious title amid a series of controversies and unexpected incidents that marked the competition.
The pageant featured over 120 contestants, with finalists from the Ivory Coast, the Philippines, Thailand, and Venezuela joining Bosch on stage for the final round of one of the world’s top beauty contests.
In the weeks leading up to the finale, Bosch faced public criticism from the pageant host, Thai organizer Nawat Itsaragrisil, who reportedly reprimanded her over not posting promotional content on social media. In protest, Bosch staged a dramatic walkout in an evening gown and high heels, accompanied by Miss Iraq.
“What your director did is not respectful: he called me dumb,” Bosch told reporters at the time. “The world needs to see this because we are empowered women and this is a platform for our voice.”
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum praised Bosch’s actions, calling her “an example of how we women should speak out” when confronted with aggression. Nawat later issued a public apology for his comments.

Prompt News reports the pageant was further disrupted by the sudden withdrawal of two judges. French composer Omar Harfouch alleged that a “secret and illegitimate vote” had been conducted without the official jury, stating on Instagram: “This vote was conducted by individuals who are not recognised members of the official judging panel.” The Miss Universe Organisation denied the allegation, confirming that “no impromptu jury has been created.” Former footballer Claude Makelele also stepped down from judging due to “unforeseen personal reasons.”
The competition itself saw several mishaps. During the costume segment, Miss Britain Danielle Latimer fell on stage in her Eliza Doolittle-inspired outfit, while Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry was hospitalized after falling during the evening gown round. Shannon-Dale Reid, Miss Universe Jamaica’s PR director, confirmed that Henry was “resting under medical observation” and had not suffered serious injuries.
Despite the controversies and stage accidents, Bosch ultimately triumphed, securing the Miss Universe crown and bringing a dramatic close to an eventful and unpredictable pageant.
