A middle-aged man, Andrawus James, has been accused of allegedly luring his 18-year-old niece out of her parents’ home in Adamawa State with a fake promise of employment in Abuja, after reportedly arranging to sell her for N7m.
James, a resident of Bai village in Yadim District, Fufure Local Government Area, allegedly conspired with a prospective buyer to hand over the teenager in exchange for the agreed sum.
The suspect reportedly admitted the allegation when he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 2, Yola.
The presiding Magistrate, Dorcas Marvin, ordered that James be remanded in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the state Department of Prosecution.
At the arraignment, the prosecution counsel, ASP Ezra Bulus, tendered a First Information Report outlining the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
According to the prosecution, the matter was reported on August 16, 2026, by Mohamed Buba of New Market, Ganye, at the Divisional Police Headquarters.
The prosecution alleged that James had approached Buba, expressing his intention to make money by selling his niece.
It was further alleged that the duo negotiated the teenager’s price and agreed on how she would be delivered to the prospective buyer.
The prosecution said James later contacted his niece, who was living with her parents in Damare Ward, Yola South Local Government Area, and allegedly told her that he had secured a job for her in Abuja.
He reportedly instructed the girl to keep the purported employment opportunity secret from her parents.
The prosecution alleged that James subsequently took the teenager to Ganye instead of Abuja, telling her that she would be handed over to another person who would take her to the Federal Capital Territory.
However, Buba reportedly alerted security personnel about the alleged arrangement, resulting in James’ arrest shortly after he arrived in Ganye with the girl.

The court adjourned the matter pending legal advice from the Department of Prosecution.
