A school teacher abducted by suspected bandits along the Anka Road in Zamfara State has reportedly been killed by his captors despite the payment of a N3 million ransom by his family.
The victim, identified as Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, was said to have been murdered after his relatives paid the amount demanded in an effort to secure his freedom.
The tragic development was disclosed on Saturday by journalist Bakatsine, who covers conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North West, in a post shared on X.
According to the report, the ransom payment failed to secure Maru’s release, underscoring growing concerns that meeting kidnappers’ demands does not necessarily guarantee the safety of victims.
Bakatsine described the incident as heartbreaking, offering prayers for the deceased and expressing sympathy to his bereaved family and all those affected by the loss.
Maru was abducted in May alongside several of his colleagues while returning to the Federal Government College, Anka, where they worked.
The kidnapping occurred along the Anka Road amid the worsening security situation in Zamfara State.
Following the abduction, appeals had been made for prayers and urgent efforts to ensure the safe return of the victims.
