As part of efforts to address the persistent shortage of teachers in Ondo State’s public secondary schools, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has given the go-ahead for the recruitment of 1,010 new teachers.
This approval follows the completion of a recruitment process by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which assessed thousands of candidates last year.
The names of the successful applicants will be made available online today and displayed at TESCOM headquarters and zonal offices from Tuesday.
Those selected are required to begin their documentation process without delay.
The recruitment drive stems from the governor’s earlier directive in 2024 to hire 1,000 secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school teachers.
While the final list for secondary school teachers has been approved, the recruitment process for primary school teachers is in its concluding phase.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has consistently emphasized the need to address staffing shortages in public schools, particularly in rural areas, ensuring that recruitment efforts are tailored to the specific needs of under-resourced institutions.
This initiative aligns with the administration’s broader education reforms.
Recently, the governor approved N633 million to cover the registration fees of students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and sanctioned the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.
