A final-year Higher National Diploma (HND) student of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, has died under tragic circumstances.
The student, popularly known as John, reportedly collapsed on Saturday shortly after arriving for a karate training session.
Sources from the institution revealed that John fainted immediately upon stepping onto the training ground.
He was initially taken to a private hospital and later referred to the Ikot Ekpene General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
The President of the Journalism and Media Studies Students Association (JAMSSA), Mr. Nsoefen Akpan, confirmed the incident.
He stated that some students, unwilling to accept the doctor’s report, took John to a church for prayers.
“Even after the hospital declared him dead, we took him to a church, hoping for a miracle.
Another spiritualist also attempted to revive him but later said he had already crossed into the spirit world,” Akpan said.
Following these efforts, the body was taken to the mortuary.
