The family of a cocoa farmer, Abdulazeez Abiodun, popularly known as Kebe, has called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding his death after his body was reportedly discovered in a bush in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Speaking on Tuesday, the deceased’s second daughter, Rofiat Abdulazeez, appealed to the police, human rights organisations, the media and other concerned Nigerians to ensure that those responsible for her father’s death are identified and prosecuted.
According to her, the farmer left his home in Isalu at about 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, to work on his cocoa plantation in Owa Onire but failed to return later that day, prompting relatives to raise the alarm.
She explained that after repeated attempts to contact him proved unsuccessful, family members mobilised local hunters and residents to search for him.
Rofiat said the search team first found her father’s motorcycle parked at the farm, raising fears that he might have been abducted.
She noted that the family initially waited in anticipation of a ransom demand, believing he had been kidnapped, but no one contacted them.
The search was later extended into the surrounding forest, where the hunters reportedly discovered the farmer’s lifeless body.
According to her, the deceased’s hands were tied, suggesting that he may have been attacked before he was killed.
Describing the incident as devastating, she said her father was a devoted husband, caring parent and hardworking farmer whose only mission that morning was to provide for his family.
She urged the police to carry out a thorough investigation, identify those behind the killing and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
Rofiat also expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the investigation, stating that although officers from the Isalu Isin Divisional Police Headquarters recovered her father’s motorcycle from the scene, the family had yet to receive any update on the case.
She appealed to journalists, civil society groups, community leaders and members of the public to help keep attention on the matter, while urging anyone with useful information to assist security agencies in their investigation.
