Former Governor of Imo state, Dr. Ikedi Godson Ohakim, has congratulated the government and people of the state as Imo marks 50 years of its creation, describing the Golden Jubilee as a moment for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to development.
In a congratulatory message made available to journalists on Monday to commemorate the Imo anniversary, Ohakim said he was “delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to the Government and people of Imo State, under the distinguished leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma, as they commemorate a significant milestone, fifty years of statehood.”
He noted that the anniversary offered an opportunity for “introspection, gratitude, and rededication to the noble ideals that have shaped the state’s history.”
Reflecting on the state’s journey over the past five decades, the former governor highlighted the contributions of Imo indigenes to national development.
According to him, “Over the past five decades, Imo State has produced remarkable individuals who have excelled in various fields, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s development.”
Ohakim added that “from governance and education to commerce, culture, sports, and public service, Ndi Imo have made indelible marks,” while acknowledging “the visionaries, leaders, and citizens who laid the foundation of the state, often under challenging circumstances.”
Looking to the future, he stressed the need for unity and inclusive governance, saying, “As Imo State embarks on its next phase, it is imperative to prioritise unity, fairness, justice, and inclusive development.”
He also praised the current administration, stating that “the people-centred approach of the current administration, as exemplified by Governor Uzodimma’s leadership, is a step in the right direction,” and urged stakeholders to embrace collective responsibility “transcending parochial interests and working towards a brighter future for all.”
Expressing optimism about the state’s prospects, Ohakim said, “I am confident that the resilience, ingenuity, and solidarity of the Imo people will continue to drive progress and prosperity.”

He further commended “the people of Imo State, at home and in the diaspora, for their unwavering commitment to the state’s growth and development.”
He concluded by calling on citizens to use the celebration as a springboard for renewed optimism.
“Let this Golden Jubilee serve as a catalyst for renewed hope, faith, and optimism,” he said, while wishing the state “continued peace, progress, and prosperity in the years ahead.”
