Nigeria and Senegal battled it out in the FIBA quarter finals Wednesday night as they looked to set up a semi final clash with Egypt.
D’ Tigers had a depleted side all through the tournament as injury to key players prevented the Nigerian side from using their best players.
The Nigerians were on top from the onset as discipline let the Senegalese down. Nigeria scored seven of eight free throw opportunities on their way to 25-16 first quarter lead.
Senegal will come back strongly in the second taking it 19-12 making it a two point game of 37-35.Senegal continued to crawl their way back and they would take the lead by the end of third quarter thanks to series of impressive three pointers, Nigeria left with it all to do at 54-49.
On a thrilling final quarter Nigeria edged their way back in front with just one point separating the sides but a single two pointer for Senegal created the difference on the night to send them through to the semi final winning by 64-63 points.
The semi-finals get underway on Friday with Ivory Coast taking on Angola while Egypt slug it out with Senegal.
