Belgian Pro League club Zulte Waregem have secured the services of promising Nigerian youngster Maliq Musa from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) outfit Ikorodu City, Prompt News Online reports.
Musa has joined Zulte Waregem on loan, with the Belgian side holding an option to sign him permanently at the end of the temporary deal.
The highly rated youngster was reportedly on the radar of several top European clubs, including Spanish giants Barcelona, before Zulte Waregem won the race for his signature.
Musa will begin his spell in Belgium with Jong Essevee, Zulte Waregem’s U-23 team. The move will give him an opportunity to continue his development and settle into Belgian football before competing for a place in the senior squad.
The youngster featured nine times in the NPFL for Ikorodu City last season, scoring once and providing one assist.
“Maliq was immediately convinced by our project here at Essevee,” begins assistant coach Davy De fauw.
“Maliq has enormous qualities, but he is still very young, so we will take the necessary time to allow him to develop further. We are convinced that he will be well supported at Essevee to successfully take this new step in his career.”
