            A Taste of Africa in Pretoria: Hombaze celebrates 23 years of culinary excellence

            In a grand celebration of its 23rd year in business, Hombaze African Cuisine opened its new branch in Brooklyn, Pretoria, on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

            The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Amb Tope Ajayi, Nigeria’s Consul General, Amb Nini Okey-Uche, former Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, and former South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb Thami Mseleku.

            The Acting Nigerian High Commissioner, Amb Ajayi, emphasised the importance of strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and South Africa, highlighting the vast business opportunities available in both countries.

            “As the leading economies on the continent, we must work together to unlock the potential of our countries and improve the lives of our people,” he said.

            Chief Igbinedion, former Edo State Governor, urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to be ambassadors of their host countries while investing in Nigeria to reduce unemployment and crime.

            He listed various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and technology, as potential areas for investment.

            Nigeria’s Consul General, Amb Nini Okey-Uche, reminded Nigerians living in South Africa to conduct themselves as “True Nigerian Ambassadors,” obeying local laws and promoting a positive image of their country.

            She praised the founders of Hombaze African Cuisine, Dr Kenn Ayere, and his wife, Mrs Nogie Ayere, for promoting Nigerian and African cuisine in South Africa.

            Amb Thami Mseleku, former South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, lauded Hombaze African Cuisine for showcasing African delicacies since 2003.

            He stressed the need for businesses from both countries to collaborate, driving economic development on the continent.

            Dr Ayere, founder of Hombaze African Cuisine, expressed gratitude to South Africans and other Africans for supporting the brand over the years.

            “Hombaze has remained committed to promoting Nigerian and African cuisine, hosting dignitaries from around the world,” he said.

            The restaurant has won several awards for its contributions to promoting African cuisine in South Africa.

            The event marked a significant milestone in Hombaze’s journey, solidifying its position as a leading African cuisine brand in South Africa.

            As Hombaze continues to expand its presence, it remains a beacon of African culinary excellence, fostering cultural exchange and understanding between nations.
