Nigeria Is A Work In Progress, Citizens Must Keep Contributing – RMD

Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has urged Nigerians to move beyond criticism and actively contribute to addressing the challenges confronting the country.

The veteran actor made the call on Tuesday while speaking at the Pivot Nigeria Conference held at the Muson Centre in Lagos.

RMD stressed the need for citizens to play a more active role in governance by holding leaders accountable while also contributing ideas and actions that can help improve the country.

According to him, Nigerians are often quick to condemn the country’s problems without offering practical solutions to address them.

“We are too quick to condemn us. There are problems but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and then proffer no solution,” he said.

The actor also pointed out that the behaviour and actions of Nigerians contribute to the way the country is viewed internationally.

He called for patience and sustained efforts towards nation-building, noting that Nigerians should not expect the country’s challenges to disappear overnight.

Prompt News reports RMD described Nigeria as a country still undergoing development and urged citizens to remain committed to improving it rather than focusing solely on its shortcomings.

“We are a country, we’re a work in progress, and we must continue just doing the work,” he added.

Also speaking at the conference, its convener, Victoria Uwadoka, said the event was designed to encourage Nigerians to recognise their individual and collective strengths and understand the impact of their actions on the country’s image.

Uwadoka urged citizens to become more involved in civic affairs, demand accountability from leaders and contribute to constructive conversations about Nigeria.

She also called for more balanced narratives about the country, saying Nigerians should acknowledge its challenges while also recognising its achievements.
