Defence Minister-designate, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), on Thursday arrived at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for his formal swearing-in, hours after his confirmation by the Senate.
Musa drove into the State House at about 3 p.m., accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Oluoyede Kayode.
The former Chief of Defence Staff became a focal point at Wednesday’s Senate screening, where lawmakers declined to grant him the customary “bow and go,” opting instead for an extended interrogation on national security.
During the session, senators drilled him on critical defence issues, including funding constraints, intelligence lapses, technological deficiencies in military operations, escalating banditry, infiltration by armed groups, operational setbacks, and the rising wave of kidnappings nationwide.
His screening took place as the Senate intensified moves to classify kidnapping as a terrorist act and impose the death penalty—a measure seen as part of wider reforms aimed at bolstering national security ahead of Musa’s resumption.
