Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) have made a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put them into consideration while carrying out policies to ameliorate hardship in the country.
The PLWD who are chiefly from Ondo State, specifically noted that the recent hike in fuel price occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy, has further advanced hardship, calling for an increase in the palliatives for the 12m Households.
Recalled that the Federal Government proposed the payment N8,000 to 12 million Nigerian families for six months to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal.
As a swelling tide of criticism continue to greet the policy, the Chairman of Physically Challenged Persons, Akoko North West Chapter of Ondo State, Awe Sunday, urged Tinubu to review the proposed amount with a view to increasing it to N20,000 per household.
Speaking on Tuesday, Awe lamented that his members were extremely incapacitated to eke out living unlike other able-bodied citizens.
He said, “the plight of physically challenged is enormous and deserves urgent and prompt attention by the Federal Government. We passionately beg our president to consider us by increasing the N8,000 cash palliative to N20,000.
“He should also consider us while unveiling his life-changing opportunities. We are Nigerians as well, and we need support since we can’t feed on our own”
“On behalf of my members, we also urge the Ondo State Government to come to the aid of the physically challenged school in Ikare Akoko so as to make life more meaningful to the people there”
He added, “Tinubu should not forget his promise to give automatic employment to graduates members of our association.
