The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Nsikak Kingsley, for allegedly assaulting his 65-year-old father, Adone Peter, to death in Akure, the state capital.
The incident, which occurred in Oda community in Akure South Local Government Area, has sparked concern among residents following reports of a violent altercation between the father and son.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly attacked his father during a dispute on May 28, 2026, inflicting severe injuries, particularly to his head.
The victim was rushed to a medical facility for treatment but was later confirmed dead by doctors while receiving care.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the case was reported by Daniel Moses, another son of the deceased and brother to the suspect.
He said detectives immediately launched an investigation and swiftly arrested the suspect.
“The victim sustained serious injuries during the assault and was taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
Unfortunately, he was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor,” the statement read.
Jimoh added that the deceased’s remains had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
He noted that the suspect remained in police custody and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as unfortunate and contrary to societal values.
The police chief reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice and warned that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Ohagwu also urged residents to avoid violence and embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes, stressing that disagreements within families or communities should never result in loss of life.

He further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or criminal acts to security agencies for prompt intervention.
