Falconets head coach Moses Aduku has expressed mixed feelings following Nigeria’s goalless draw against China at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria bounced back from their 2-0 defeat to Spain in their opening match with a much-improved performance, but they were unable to find the breakthrough despite creating opportunities.
China came closest to scoring on two occasions, with Li Chenyu hitting the crossbar just 82 seconds into the match before Xue Sifan also struck the woodwork early in the second half.
Benfica forward Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei posed a constant threat to the Chinese defence, but the Falconets could not convert their chances.
The result keeps Nigeria’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stage alive.
Aduku admitted that his team went into the game targeting all three points but praised the players for their improved display.
“The honest truth is that we came to win, but I think China also showed some resilience in the game,” Aduku told FIFA.com.
“It was not a bad game for both sides, but the little chances we created, we could not take them.
“Honestly, I saw improvement in my team compared to the Spanish game, so we’re getting better. It’s not the result we wanted, but we did not play badly.”
