The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19 year old woman, Esther Gambo, for allegedly kidnapping a newborn baby and murdering two young girls.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Ahmed Wakil said Esther, who hails from Lemoro Village in Toro Local Government Area, lured two seven year old girls—Khadija Samaila and Aisha Dahiru—from Unguwan Sarkin Yaki Village.
According to the police, Esther’s motive was to steal a newborn girl belonging to Nafisa Dahiru.
After taking the baby, she allegedly led the two girls to a nearby maize farm, where she killed them with a machete before fleeing.
Following a swift response by the police and local vigilantes, Esther was apprehended, the kidnapped baby was rescued, and the bodies of the two girls were recovered.
The tragic incident sparked unrest in the affected community, with angry protests led mainly by Muslim youths. Some churches were set on fire, and there was an attempt to burn down the Tulu Divisional Police Headquarters.
However, police reinforcements from Toro and nearby divisions quickly restored calm.
