Nigerian gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has publicly apologised after facing criticism over comments she made concerning the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
In a video shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, the gospel artiste expressed regret over the reaction her earlier statement generated, saying she never intended to offend Nigerians or make anyone feel ignored.
According to her, the message she previously shared was aimed at addressing the security situation and encouraging prayers for the country, but some people interpreted it differently.
“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.
Prompt News reports Alaseyori stated that she was deeply saddened by the negative reactions and stressed that she would never deliberately disregard the pain of affected families.
“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she added.
The singer’s apology comes after widespread criticism followed a previous video in which she urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country’s security challenges while expressing confidence that the government and security agencies were working to rescue the victims and restore peace.
Her remarks sparked debate online, with many Nigerians insisting that beyond prayers, stronger and more urgent action was needed from authorities to address the worsening security situation.
