Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has admitted that publicly backing Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu, during the last election came with consequences for her career.
The actress made the revelation while speaking with fellow actor Timini Egbuson, as she shared advice on how he could successfully promote and sell out his movies at the box office.
During the discussion, Abraham advised the actor to avoid publicly declaring support for political figures, stressing that entertainers should remain neutral.
“The first advice I will give you in my entire life is don’t put your mouth in politics. Don’t tell them you’re supporting anybody. Don’t support anybody, just be on your own. Be neutral,” she said.

When Timini pointed out that she had openly campaigned for Tinubu during the election period, the actress replied, “That was then.”
She went on to acknowledge that her political stance negatively affected her professional life.
“Haaaaaaa, it affected me oooo,” she said.
Her comments come amid past controversies surrounding her political support during the election period. In early 2024, Abraham also raised concerns after her movie Ijakumo (Born-Again Stripper) was allegedly circulated illegally on WhatsApp.
Prompt News reports while reacting to criticism and poor reviews linked to the situation, she said, “You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours is not.”
At the time, some social media users had called for a boycott of her film because of her open support for Tinubu during the election campaign.
