Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed her disappointment following the team’s underwhelming campaign at the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Prompt News Online reports.
The Super Falcons saw their quest for another continental title come to an end in the quarter-finals after suffering a 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
The result also cost Justine Madugu’s side an automatic ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Nigeria were presented with another opportunity to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive through the inter-confederation playoffs, but a 2-1 defeat to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on Thursday night ended those ambitions.
Reacting to the team’s performance, Ajibade noted the significant progress made by other African nations in women’s football in recent years.
She maintained that the Super Falcons must recognise the increasing level of competition on the continent and ensure they are better prepared for future tournaments.
“To be honest, my biggest lesson is just gratitude. We should be grateful,” Ajibade told reporters after the game against South Africa.
”We should learn not to be lax because the competition is fierce now. We must realize we’re not invincible; we just need to prepare more, get better, and demand more of ourselves individually and collectively.”
