President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday underscored the enduring ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, citing notable athletes of Nigerian descent while addressing King Charles III at Windsor Castle.
Speaking during an official engagement, Tinubu referenced prominent sports personalities, including Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Anthony Joshua, and Maro Itoje, as symbols of the deep-rooted connection between both nations.
The President noted that such individuals exemplify the strong human and cultural links binding Nigeria and the UK, stressing that both countries share more than historical ties but also a common vision for growth and resilience.
Tinubu further described Nigerians in the UK as one of the most vibrant diaspora communities globally, highlighting their contributions across key sectors, particularly healthcare.
According to him, Nigerian professionals play a critical role within the National Health Service, with Nigerian-trained doctors forming a significant portion of international medical personnel sustaining the system.
He added that the relationship between the two countries is also reinforced through their shared membership of the Commonwealth of Nations, which brings together 56 countries under the leadership of the British monarch.
