A young boy identified as Hassan Haruna from Bena, Kebbi State, has survived a kidnapping attack that claimed the lives of his father and the family driver, while his mother reportedly died in captivity.
Hassan was said to have been travelling with his parents and their driver along Shagari Road when armed kidnappers attacked their vehicle.
In a video circulating on social media, the boy recounted how the attackers killed his father and the driver before taking him and his mother into a nearby forest.
According to him, his mother later died while they were being held in the kidnappers’ hideout.
Hassan said he eventually escaped from captivity and found his way out through the Kucheri forest area of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State.
Following his escape, the boy was taken to a hospital where he received medical treatment and is currently recovering.
Narrating his ordeal, Hassan said he was travelling with his family when the attackers intercepted their vehicle and opened fire, killing his father and the driver.
He said the kidnappers subsequently took him and his mother into the forest, where she died during their captivity.
Efforts were reportedly ongoing to locate Hassan’s relatives and reunite him with members of his family.
Residents of Bena and neighbouring communities were urged to provide any information that could assist in tracing his relatives.
The incident has also sparked calls for prayers and support for Hassan as he recovers from the traumatic experience and comes to terms with the loss of his parents.
A message accompanying the appeal said, “Imagine surviving captivity only to come out without your father and mother.”
