Elders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the South-south geo-political zone rose from a meeting in Abuja, insisting that President Goodluck Jonathan must run for second term come 2015.
The meeting which held under the chairmanship of a former federal commissioner, Edwin Clark, passed vote of confidence on the President, saying he needed to complete the transformation of the country.
Reading the communiqué after the four hour meeting in Abuja, spokesman for the group, Ayakemeh Whiskey said they also resolved to resist any attempt to stop the President from running for a second term.
The leaders also called on Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers to desist from all forms of anti-party activities and join hands with other stakeholders to ensure the success of the ruling party at the next general elections.
Governor Amaechi was recently suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party at the national level.
