The Peoples Democratic Party has cleared former President Goodluck Jonathan to participate in its forthcoming presidential primary after granting him a waiver.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja by former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, a member of the party’s National Working Committee Presidential and Governorship Screening Committee headed by Tanimu Turaki.
Aliyu spoke shortly after the conclusion of the screening exercise conducted by the committee.
The move comes amid growing political permutations within the opposition party ahead of the presidential primary.
A faction of the PDP reportedly aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier announced that Jonathan would be screened as one of the party’s presidential aspirants on Tuesday.
Despite expectations that the former president would submit his nomination forms on Monday, he was said to have been absent from the exercise.

The waiver granted to Jonathan is believed to have paved the way for his clearance by the screening committee as consultations within the party continue ahead of the primary election.
