The Osun State Police Command has recovered a second corpse from the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, following Sunday’s shooting that claimed the life of an Accord Party chieftain, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade.
The development was disclosed by the state police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, on Monday, as the remains of Oyeyemi were buried at his newly completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo.
Oyeyemi was reportedly shot during a clash involving him and a group led by another National Union of Road Transport Workers leader, identified as Sibi, at the motor park.
Following the incident, Governor Ademola Adeleke confirmed Oyeyemi’s death and directed the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to identify and arrest those responsible.
Providing an update, Ojelabi said the motor park had been shut down on the directive of the governor, while the recovered corpse had been deposited at a morgue.
He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, urging anyone linked to the incident to report to the nearest police station.
The police spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police had directed that everyone connected with the incident would be apprehended and prosecuted, regardless of their status.
Meanwhile, Oyeyemi’s remains were taken from the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, and buried according to traditional rites.
His family members and traditional priests were present during the burial, while associates accompanying the remains reportedly waited outside.
The burial followed an incident at the hospital where suspected associates of the deceased allegedly attacked two workers after accusing them of recording the proceedings with their phones. Additional police vehicles were later deployed to the hospital, restoring calm.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, denied claims that he had endorsed Oyeyemi as the next Osun State NURTW chairman.
Oyedele said transport union leaders had visited his residence on Sunday and told him they wanted Oyeyemi to lead the union.
He said he only agreed to present their request to the governor and other officials before he was informed, about two hours later, that Oyeyemi had been killed.
