A fresh corpse has been recovered at a Mayfair motorpark, lle-Ife in Osun State, 24 hours after the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as ‘Emir’ an aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke during a peace meeting among two factions of the Accord Party.
It was reported that Emir who had been standing trial for terrorism and on the police wanted list over alleged murder, had gone to lle-Ife on Sunday for a peace meeting with a group loyal to Nurudeen Alowonle, Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, Emir was buried according to traditional rites on Monday around 3pm at his residence located at Usteem area of Agunbelewo, Osun State.
Earlier, at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH) where the Emir’s corpse was deposited, on Sunday, his family, friends, supporters and gang members besieged the premises close to the morgue to grieve.
Meanwhile, they became unruly when a staff member of the hospital simply identified as Abiodun put up his phone to record them close to the Administrative Block.
A source within the hospital who pleaded anonymity explained that “police operatives later intervened because they also assaulted one of the visitors to the hospital.
“It was the police that rescued the two staff of UNIOSUNTH and one other. They were pelting stones at the police after they rescued their victims and were leaving the premises of the hospital.”
The grieving youths later left the hospital hurriedly after an attack on the police, Police operatives later reinforced to the two entrances of the hospital as they stationed five security patrol vans with a van of DSS patrolling the premises of the hospital.
Reacting to the development, the Osun State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed recovery of another corpse at Mayfair Motor Park on Monday.
He disclosed that a security meeting was held on Monday and efforts have been put in place to ensure justice after the killing.
According to him, “There was a security meeting today where it was resolved that Sibi should not be seen in any of the park in lle-Ife. The governor has also decided that the Mayfair park should not operate for now and as a result police were deployed to ensure there’s no breakdown of law and order.
“Also, another body was recovered by the police aside that of Emir and has been deposited at the morgue.”
He noted that the Commissioner of Police, lbrahim Zungura, has directed that the case be transferred to the state CID for more comprehensive investigation.
“Those that have been fingered in connection with the incident, rather than going to social media to claim innocent , should go to any police station around them to say whatever they have to say.
“The commissioner of police has promised that all those involved regardless of which side they belongs to will be apprehended and Justice will be done,” he ended.
