Two separate fire outbreaks in Ikorodu and Surulere areas of Lagos State have destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency disclosed this in a statement by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, on Monday.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the first incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Adamo Bus Stop, Ikorodu, where a fire suspected to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring spread from a hairdressing shop to adjoining shops.
He said three shops were affected, with goods and other property worth millions of naira destroyed.
Emergency responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Imota, were deployed to contain the blaze.
According to him, preliminary findings indicated that an electrical spark ignited the roof of the hairdressing shop before the fire spread to nearby shops. He added that no death or injury was recorded.
In a separate incident later that morning, fire destroyed two shops at 19 Olatunde Onimole Street, near Bakery Bus Stop, Surulere.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the affected shops dealt in furniture and provisions, adding that both businesses and their contents were completely destroyed. The cause of the fire had yet to be established, while no casualty was recorded.
Meanwhile, LASEMA teams also responded to several road emergencies across the state between Sunday and Monday, including a truck breakdown at Olupese Bus Stop, a road crash on the Third Mainland Bridge and a tanker breakdown on Ilupeju Road.
The agency said its responders, working with LASTMA, the police, LASAMBUS and other emergency agencies, evacuated the affected vehicles and restored traffic flow. Paramedics also provided immediate medical attention to victims of the Third Mainland Bridge crash.
