NSCDC tasks journalists on professionalism

 The Nasarawa State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has tasked journalists to uphold professional ethics in reportage.Muhammad Mahmoud-Fari, State Commandant of NSCDC, gave this charge on Friday in Lafia while playing host to the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council.He said the media played a critical role in societal development, hence the need for journalists to exhibit a high sense of professionalism.Mahmoud-Fari also stressed the need for the chapel and NUJ to tackle the issue of fake journalists with the seriousness it deserves.According to the commandant, the activities of impostors is tarnishing the image of the professional journalists, thereby exposing the professionals to ridicule.“Journalists by their profession, are critical stakeholders and they should conduct themselves professionally in all circumstances.“For the fact that you are a journalist or a security personnel, it does not make you special than others or above the law, so everyone must operate within the confines of the law”.Mahmoud-Fari noted that the state command, under his leadership, would always partner with the media to rid the state of criminal elements.Earlier, Isaac Ukpoju, the chairman of the correspondents’ chapel, said the visit was to familiarise with the commandant towards ensuring a smooth working relationship.
