The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kelvin Obakpororo, for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, known as Excellence, who was also the mother of his two young children.
The incident, which occurred in Sapele between June 26 and 27, 2025, gained widespread attention on social media, prompting public outrage and calls for justice.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said on Sunday in Asaba, “You will recall the viral reports of Excellence’s murder by her boyfriend, who is also the father of her two kids.
The suspect initially fled but has now been arrested and is in our custody. He will be arraigned in court shortly.”
While in custody, Obakpororo confessed to the crime, claiming he acted under the influence of drugs.
“She was into hookups. Every time she came to my place, she would dress up and go meet other men. That day, we argued. She picked up a knife, and I grabbed a hammer. I hit her three times on the forehead, and she collapsed.
I didn’t know she would die. I was high on 200mg of tramadol. It was a mistake. I’m sorry,” he said.
The suspect also admitted to being involved in internet fraud and expressed remorse for killing the mother of his children, aged three and two.
