Nollywood actress Motilola Akinlami has spoken candidly about the real motivation behind her decision to publicly announce her divorce, shedding light on a disturbing blackmail attempt that pushed her to take control of her narrative.
In a heartfelt conversation with colleague Biola Bayo, Motilola disclosed that a blogger had reached out to her, threatening to expose the state of her marriage. According to her, the individual accused her of pretending to be in a relationship she had already exited and warned that they would go public with the information.

Explaining her reaction, she said, “Why did I announce my divorce? There was a blog at that time, the blogger messaged me and said, ‘You live in disguise, and I will expose it. I know that you have left your marriage.’ So, I was like, you want to blackmail me at this point? When I have got nothing else to lose, I will post it.”
The actress, who shares two children with her ex-husband, also spoke out about the societal stigma that often trails women after a failed marriage. She criticized the notion that some women enter marriage with an exit plan, calling it a deeply flawed perception.
“There is one guy that is deceiving you, there is one man somewhere. I don’t know, I think I need to ask you people—do people think people go into marriages hoping to leave? I think they believe there is this new breed of women who enter marriage intending to walk out. So, make it make sense,” she expressed.
“Except a woman is clinically insane, no woman will ever go into a marriage with the intention of leaving. You go because you want forever,” she added with conviction.
